Leadership That Moves People.
Real stories. Hard-earned lessons. Lasting impact.
Peter Baines OAM is a leadership keynote speaker, author and founder of Hands Across the Water, helping audiences think differently about resilience, purpose and what it takes to lead when it matters most.
From Crisis RESPONSE to Contribution
Peter Baines did not set out to become a humanitarian.
He began his career navigating some of the darkest corners of disaster, as a forensic police officer responding to terrorism, mass fatalities and natural catastrophes across the globe. But it was in the aftermath of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, standing in the silence of Thai temples filled with the lost, that something shifted.
Among the devastation, Peter met children who had lost everything. That experience changed the course of his life.
From that moment, his work began to move from crime scenes to contribution. He founded Hands Across the Water, a charity created to provide long-term support for children and communities in Thailand, and has since helped build a legacy of purpose, care and opportunity.
Today, Peter brings the hard-won lessons of those experiences to the stage — not from textbooks, but from tents, temples and boardrooms in crisis.
His keynote presentations and leadership programs challenge audiences to lead with purpose, navigate uncertainty with courage and build legacies grounded in service.

Leadership shaped in crisis.
Delivered with purpose.
Peter’s leadership insight has been shaped in environments where pressure was high, information was incomplete and decisions carried real consequence.
From crime scenes and forensic investigations to international disaster response, the Bali Bombings and the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, Peter has seen leadership tested in moments most people never experience.
He does not speak from theory alone. His experience spans crisis response, charity leadership, endurance and the ongoing work of building something that lasts.
That is why his message resonates with leaders and teams.
He understands pressure.
He understands responsibility.
He understands the human cost of uncertainty.
And he understands the power of purpose to keep people moving when the road ahead is long.
Peter’s work helps audiences reflect on the way they lead, the trust they build and the impact they choose to have.
THE ROAD DOESN’T GET EASIER.
PURPOSE MAKES IT POSSIBLE.

Together We Can
A story of sacrifice, struggle and the power of doing hard things together.
Twenty years after the Boxing Day Tsunami, Peter returned to Thailand to run 1,400 kilometres in 26 days.
The Run to Remember was never just about distance. It was about honouring the children, families and communities whose lives had been changed by the tsunami, and recognising the long road that had followed.
Peter’s book Together We Can tells the story behind that journey and the two decades of purpose, resilience and shared commitment that shaped it.
